Landslide - New Election Game

Saturday July 31, 2004
A new election-themed game promises to "put regular Joes and Janes in the middle of the race for the White House." Landslide, according to a press release, allows players to choose the issues, allegiances and strategy to get ahead. After choosing a scenario -- each with different objectives to fit desired game length -- candidates choose a political affiliation and the positions they will take on key issues.

Candidates hit the campaign trail and vie for all the electoral votes they can get, with all sorts of political twists and turns along the way. Based on actual data from the Electoral College, Landslide uses historical campaign facts and events to guide players through their campaigns.

As they move around the board, candidates may be challenged to give a Checkers speech, spell potato or discuss their sexual activities on "60 Minutes."

"Landslide is perfect for members of Congress and dinner-table politicians alike," said Baxter Stephenson, one of the game's creators, in the release. "It's the politically correct way to engage in the politically incorrect act of talking about politics at a party."

Created by Stephenson, Chris Bakeman, Hugh O'Brien and Sean O'Brien, Landslide is targeted at an audience of fun-loving people passionate about politics.

"After playing Landslide a few times, you may consider actually running for president," said Stephenson. "I wouldn't recommend it though."

Landslide, published by Ezakly, Inc., is available at http://www.playlandslide.com/. It's recommended for ages 12 and up, playes with 2 to 6 players, and sells for about $39.95.
