Strong Museum in Rochester, New York, recently announced that it will become the first museum to focus exclusively on "the importance of play as it reflects and illuminates the American experience."

In a Sept. 10 article in the Rochster Democrat and Chronicle, Strong Museum's president and CEO, G. Rollie Adams said, "We've found the word (play) often sounds frivolous to people; they think it’s something children do. They don’t stop to think how important that is to a child’s development and how important it is for us to play as well."

The museum recently acquired the National Toy Hall of Fame and is preparing to undergo a $26 million expansion.

The mayor of Fairport, a town 10 miles outside Rochester, is Clark King -- himself a game player and collector. "American board games reflect American culture," King said in the article. "But they’re also a good recreational outlet, particularly for stress, for adults."
