Independent Board Games

Friday July 4, 2003
In honor of July 4, Independence Day in the United States, here's a look at some board games set in the American Revolution, games with patriotic American themes, and games with a theme of freedom.

American Revolution Series
The games in this series, published by GMT Games, include Brandywine, Guilford, and Saratoga, 1777.

Battle Grid
The basic set of this expandable, basic war game includes American and British armies from the Revolutionary War.

Freedom in the Galaxy
Published by Avalon Hill in 1981, this game finds a small band of rebels fighting the oppression of a mighty empire.

Minuteman - The Second American Revolution
In this 1976 SPI game, players are either rebel or government forces. It's set in the (then) future year of 1984, when a second American Revolution takes place.

Monopoly - America Edition
The classic American game of Monopoly gets a patriotic makeover.

Wargames of the American Revolution
The great wargames web site grognard.com lists dozens of games set in the Revolutionary War.
