50 Most Significant Games

Acquire

Games have existed in some form throughout human history, but only have been commercially published with the goal of selling them to a wide audience since the 1800s. These are my picks for the most significant games published since 1800.

Office DVD Game Available First in Scranton

Sunday July 13, 2008
The Office DVD Game will make its debut in Scranton, Pennsylvania, this Saturday, July 19. According to a report in the Scranton Times-Tribune, Mindy Kaling, who plays Kelly Kapoor on the television series, will be on hand. The first 125 people who purchase The Office DVD Game or The Office Trivia Game at Boscov's at the Mall at Steamtown will be able to have Kaling autograph their games. Scranton was chosen because it is home to The Office's fictional Dunder Mifflin paper company.

New HeroScape Expansions Available

Saturday July 12, 2008
The first HeroScape expansions published by Wizards of the Coast are now available. Altogether, the six packages include 14 new heroes and four new squads, along with new jungle terrain:

  • Ticalla Jungle: A squad of spiders and nine pieces of jungle terrain. The new terrain makes this the best of the expansions, in my opinion.
  • Heroes of the Quagmire (pictured): Three huge and two large heroes, including a dragon, an ogre, a huge insect, a soulborg, and a marro hivelord.
  • Heroes of the Molten Sea: Four medium heroes and one large hero, including two ninjas, an elf wizard, a daimyo, and a knight.
  • Elves: Four elf wizards. Their special abilities allow them to interact with each other and other elves very well.
  • Soldiers and Wolves: A squad (four figures) of human soldiers and a squad (three figures) of wolves.
  • Marro Cavalry: One squad (three figures) of marro hunters.

The new expansions are available at hobby game stores and online stores. Previously, HeroScape was published by Milton Bradley. Both Milton Bradley and Wizards of the Coast are owned by Hasbro.
